Quick Start
From DPBwiki
First, make sure you know what DPB is.
If you're reading the wiki for the first time, then most likely you've been pointed here by a member of DPB. This page will give you a short introduction into what you can expect from subscribing to DPB.
Be aware that DPB can produce a HUGE amount of traffic. There are days on record with over 700 posts, and months with over 10,000. The record is over 15,000. Make sure your account can handle it. Gmail is an excellent choice, and many members of DPB can send you invites if you don't already have it. This is especially important given DPB's hatred of lurkers.
We also have a number of posting customs designed to make it easier to read this huge amount of traffic (or just because we like them). A certain array of customs is approved by the Church of DPB. Most importantly:
You may or may not be WtFaY'd; it's best to expect it. This is actually a friendly tradition, despite how it may appear to the unprepared. DPB often feels very antagonistic, however it is usually a friendly antagonism. This group has been building over the years from a rather tight-knit social group into a larger amorphous community with various traditions and in jokes.
Eventually you will encounter the Parser. Some people like it, some people don't, and there are a number of mostly unwritten socially enforced "rules" regarding its usage. Don't worry, people usually explain what rule you just broke as they verbally abuse you for breaking it. There are also some conversations we are sick of, which may not be worth trying to start.
In the spirit of poo, you are encouraged to share links that are thought-provoking or just plain dumb. You should tag these links appropriately, so that people (and the parser) know what they will be viewing.
